Laser Hair Removal for Men & Women

Get rid of excess, unwanted hair the fast safe effective way.
Appropriate for All Skin Types.
Albany Dermatology uses the LightSheertm Diode Laser—the world’s most advanced treatment for effective removal of unwanted facial and body hair. Depending on your needs, most facial & body area can be treated, including: Face, Lip, Bikini, Underarms, Legs, Buttocks, Genitals, Back, Shoulders, Chest, Breasts (areola), Abdomen, Forehead, and Head.

Here’s How It Works
The laser emits a very brief pulse of highly concentrated light. The pigment in the hair follicle absorbs this light where it turns into heat. This energy vaporizes the pigment, disabling and destroying the follicles, thereby significantly impeding and preventing the hair’s regrowth. Unlike electrolysis which kills one hair at a time, the Lightsheertm is able to target all the hairs that fall under it’s 9-millimeter square laser window. This permits us to treat an entire body area each session.
What Can You Expect?
Your session length may be only a few minutes to an hour or more, depending on the size area being treated. The treatment itself can cause some discomfort. However, most patients tolerate the procedure. The laser has a built in cooling tip which has a mild anesthetic affect and we have topical anesthetic creams and cooling gels to further improve your comfort. Immediately after a treatment, there may be some redness, mild irritation and bumps at the treatment site. This generally fades within a day.
What Happens After Treatment
For up to a week it may appear as if the treated hairs are continuing to grow. Actually they are simply being shed as a result of the treatment. You may use depilatory creams, shave, or bleach between sessions, but you should not pluck or wax.
How Hair Grows.
Hair grows in cycles. The active growth stage is called anagen. In this stage the hair is most sensitive to the laser energy. Catagen is the regression phase during which the lower part of the hair stops growing. The final phase, telogen, is the resting phase. The old hair is shed leaving an empty hair shaft. The laser is not as effective on catagen and telogen phase growth.
How Many Sessions Will I Need?
Because the hairs in any given area are in various growth phases, several sessions are generally needed for hair removal. Most patient will need 4-6 sessions. Treatment are generally scheduled 6-12 weeks apart depending on the particular area being treated and the hair density. The Lightsheer Diode Laser is able to work effectively and safely on tanned skin. However, the settings required to do this will generally mean additional sessions may be needed. It is best therefore to avoid tanning during your treatment period.
Will It Work On Me?
The LightSheer Diode Laser is designed to work on all skin types; from the palest type I to the darkest Type VI. It is most effective on individuals with light skin and dark hair. Laser hair removal is generally not effective for those who have colorless (i.e. pale blond, white or gray) hair. The Lightsheer is effective on the vast majority of clients
